The Dormant Accounts Fund is a scheme for the disbursement of unclaimed funds from accounts in credit institutions in Ireland.
The fund is administered under the 2001 Dormant Accounts Act, together with the Unclaimed Life Assurance Policies Act 2003 and the Dormant Accounts (Amendment) Act 2012 and is under the statutory function of the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs from July 2016.
Over a hundred organisations have shared more than €5 million in funding which will provide a range of supports for disadvantaged groups and local communities under the latest tranche of Dormant Accounts Funding.
The Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government (DECLG) together with the Department of Social Protection (DSP) and the Department of Health (DOH) sponsored the funding, which includes measures to promote youth employment; supports for home carers; capital grants for social enterprises; initiatives to prevent substance misuse; and supports for people with disabilities
