Bike Like Me Virtual Festival

Cycling Ireland will be hosting its first ever Bike Like Me Virtual Festival on Sunday, 11th July.

The Bike Like Me Virtual Festival aims to inspire more women and girls to discover cycling and feel confident on their bikes. This all-day event brings women and girls together throughout the day to promote cycling and facilitate them to try different activities. The virtual celebration will bring females from across the island of Ireland together to share their experiences of cycling and inspire each other on their cycling journey!

Please note all activities excluding Facebook Live sessions require registration, places are limited and will be taken on a first come first served basis. 

Timetable of events

9.30 to 10am - Facebook Live: Sprocket Rocket led by Cycling Ireland Coaches Roisin Hickey and Grainne Burke
Sprocket Rocket develops fun cycling skills which can be practiced at home, in the garden or at the park they include cornering, pedalling, braking and balancing. Sprocket Rocket aims to increasing the competence and confidence of young riders (5-12yrs). Please only perform these skills under the supervision of a guardian/parent. 10 to 11am - Zwift eRacing                                                  
Cycling Ireland one day World Classic on the popular online training platform Zwift. Test yourself against other riders from across the world in some friendly racing rivalry with this fun way to keep active. A great introduction into racing if you have never tried it before (18yrs+). Riders will have five categories to choose from meaning all levels are catered for. To register please click HERE 
 
11am to 12pm - Zoom Interval Training Session led by Bike Like Me Advocate Laura Daly
Interval training session is great opportunity to get in shape with one of our Bike Like Me Advocates Laura Daly, who will motivate you along the way to work up a sweat and have fun with other cyclists (18yrs+). You will need a set of rollers or a turbo trainer. You do not need a smart trainer to take part. You will also need a laptop/webcam enabled desktop/tablet or phone that you can access Zoom. 12 to 1pm - Facebook Live: Pilates led by Pilates Instructor Louise Keogh
Pilates session specifically tailored for cyclists, to stretch and tone either after a ride or as part of their training programme (18yrs+). Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance. 1 to 2pm - Zoom Webinar 'Women in Cycling' led by Tri -Talking Sport presenter Joanne Murphy     
The theme for the panel discussion is ‘Women in Cycling’ riders including Eve McCrystal, Lara Gillespie, Katie-George Dunlevy and Bike Like Me Advocate Ruth Nugent will discuss their experiences from how they got into the sport, the journey it has taken them on, why they love it so much and wish to inspire other women and girls into cycling! All Day - Family Ride 5km                                                                                       
Fun for all the family to get involved and enjoy a 5km ride around their local community. Great opportunity for family members of all ages to get on their bikes and support each other to cycle safety and revel in the great outdoors. You can complete the ride at any time during the day that best suits your family. To register please click HERE 
 
*Safety – Please ensure that your family cycle is on an off-road environment or Greenway. If you choose to go on the road with your children, please ensure your children supervised and are competent cyclists and that you are using appropriate equipment such as child seats etc.. if required. All Day - AXA Community Bike Ride 20km           
In support of the Bike Like Me Virtual Festival AXA Community Bike Ride have created a solo bike ride, to encourage all women (18yrs+) to get out on their bikes and promote cycling within their community. This leisurely 20km bike ride, can be completed by yourself on a nice, quiet route, keeping within your area. You can complete the ride at any time during the day that best suits you.
