Calling all coaches and sport staff - Mental health in sport research study

 18 Sep 2020

A post graduate research study is commencing in the University of Limerick which will test the effectiveness of delivering a 2.5 hour Mental Health in Sport workshop for coaches and sport staff.

Participation in sport is associated with improved mental health although some sports organisations may not recognise the prevalence and significance of mental health issues among the athlete population.

This study hopes to improve the knowledge of mental health in sport through educating coaches and sport staff in recognising the signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Coaches and support staff will be given the tools to approach athletes to have a chat about mental health and given information on who and how to refer an athlete on. They will also be given the tools and knowledge to support the athlete through their journey.

Participants taking part in the study will be asked to complete two questionnaires and attend a free 2.5hr online mental health workshop on Saturday 26th September 9.30am - 12pm OR Wednesday 30th September 7pm – 9.30pm.
