In place of Active School Week, held every April; Active Schools have launched a new Active Home Week challenge instead
The idea of the #ActiveHomeWeek challenge is to:
Reach out to parents/guardians/carers to support the work that is taking place in their school
Raise awareness about the fact that young people and children need, at least, 60 MINUTES of physical activity every day
Support parents by providing them with ideas and a challenge format to encourage children and young people to build physical activity into their day
Encourage children and young people to find NEW ways of being physically active that they ENJOY
To complete the challenge children and young people, have to find four different ways of being active each day making sure that this adds up to 60 minutes, or more. They are encouraged to try something NEW, have FUN with a family activity and ENJOY the week!
@activeflag has gathered together ‘in one place’ a wide range of physical activity ideas to make it easy for parents to find ideas, and for children and young people to ways, to complete the challenge. The Twitter feed includes many of the excellent ideas, challenges and resources being shared by Local Sports Partnerships and NGBs, as well as those of local / national sports clubs, role models and agencies. We would be delighted to retweet future postings by LSPs and NGBs if they tag us in their posts.
We have also collated many of the online suggestions into an IDEAS work cloud graphic which we hope will be of benefit to parents and schools.
The ‘Active HOME Week’ challenge and the resource materials are available to view on Twitter and on the website
