Cycling club launched in Edenderry area

 10 Nov 2010

TEAM 905 is a new cycling club operating from the Edenderry area.

The club was formed by a group of enthusiasts who have been cycling together for several years. The arrangement was put on a somewhat more formal basis in late 2009 after several discussions, meetings and the enjoyment of the occasional 'social' outing.

Most of the members are leisure or touring cyclists but there are a couple of members at present burning up the roads of Ireland in amateur racing.

Readers will probably have seen the club’s red, black and yellow colours out on the roads of Offaly, Kildare, Meath and Westmeath over the last few months.

For the winter months, members meet officially every Sunday morning at the Harbour, Edenderry at 9.30am and in Rhode at 10.05am for a spin of around 75km. The distance is slightly longer in summertime.

Cycling is an excellent form of exercise that can be enjoyed all year round and, provided you are reasonably fit, at almost any age.

Team 905 is affiliated to Cycling Ireland and club rules require all participants to be properly kitted out when cycling with a helmet etc.

Ordinary membership is €40. Team 905 jersey, shorts and Winter Jacket are extra. At present membership is only available to people over 18.

If you are living in the general area and you want to take part in a very sociable pursuit, while at the same time getting some very good aerobic exercise, please contact one of our club officers - Dr Philip Brady, President; Hugh O’Donoghue, Chair-person, 086 8345797; Robbie Dunne, Secretary, 086 3107947; Brendan McAulliffe, Treasurer, 086 8511058
